Health Unit needs help to Ignite! activity directory

It’s no walk in the park keeping track of opportunities for physical activity locally.
That’s where the local Physical Activity Directory comes in. It is the work of Ignite!, the physical activity network for Hastings and Prince Edward counties. The directory is available for viewing at all offices of the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit, municipal offices, parks and recreation departments and local libraries.
It is also online at www.yourhealthunit.ca. Just type “physical activity directory” into the search engine (Prince Edward County currently not available). The directory provides listings by area for Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Central Hastings, North Hastings, Tyendinaga and Deseronto.
Karen Weichenthal, is doing a student placement at the Health Unit for Ignite! She has the job of updating the listings in the directory and letting more people know of its existence.
“We’d love to hear from those who would like to be included in the Physical Activity Directory,” says Weichenthal. “It’s free to have your organization listed.”
Those organizations include sports teams or organizations, martial arts clubs, dance programs, aquatics clubs and any other physically active recreation activity.
To add or update information in the directory, call the Healthy Life Line at 613-966-5500 ext 610 and leave a message or email physicalactivity@hpechu.on.ca
The information to be included in the directory includes: name and address of the organization; contact name, phone number and e-mail address, as well as website information if applicable.  Information about any subsidy funding or fee assistance available for participants should also be included.
The physical activity network Ignite! consists of individuals and agencies with an interest in promoting physical activity in the community. “The network’s vision,” says Weichenthal, “is that the places where we live, learn, work and play support the choice to be physically active. We want to make the active choice the easy choice.”
