The Picton Firefighters Association gives a shoutout to local businesses, companies, sponsors and participants who help them raise $5,000 at a golf tournament in support of Camp Bucko, a summer camp dedicated to burn victim survivors ages seven to 17.
The camp is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and this August hosted more than 70 children for a week of adventure – free of charge – thanks to donations from firefighters associations, service groups and other public and private organizations. Camp Bucko was hosted by Cedar Ridge Camp near Bancroft.
Donations also help to pay for the childrens’ transportation and souvenirs to remember their stay where, in a supportive environment, they learn there is more to who they are than scars.
The PEC Firefighters Association also thanks volunteers John Thissen, Allison Leavitt, Ken Robinson, Kevin Macalpine, Dave Kondratiuk, Dan Sanford, and Paul Vidito for their help organizing, setting up and preparing for the event.
