Historic home moves to LCBO’s back yard

lcbo-1Just over a dozen County residents watched CDS Building Movers relocate an historic home from the front to the back of the site of Picton’s new liquor store.

It took about nine minutes for the 60-ton structure to move from facing Main Street to facing Lake Street, roughly across from Bill Scott’s general store. It took more than an hour to get it to its final location. A hydro pole and wire had to be taken down and the home was inched into place.

The old LCBO building, which had been on the former McKee Motors location since 1957, has been demolished to make room for a new 8,000 square foot store. Meanwhile, its temporary location is on Main Street.

CDS Building Movers specializes in recycling heritage and historic buildings; raising roofs to expand commercial buildings and raising houses or cottages to install foundations. One of its biggest projects last year was the relocation by 600 feet of the 98-year-old Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park.
