Hometown crowd proud to congratulate Olympic champion Brian Price

Fans were happy to line up to meet Olympic champion Brian Price at the Ameliasburgh Hall Wednesday night, but no doubt, nobody’s more proud than mom, Evelyn.

Friends, neighbours and former school teachers were among fans who lined up to meet  Olympic champion Brian Price at the Ameliasburgh Town Hall Wednesday night.
The line from the reception area continued down the hall’s walk way and out into the parking lot, but patience was rewarded as the guest of honour took time to ensure everybody was able to take a good photograph. He answered questions and allowed the curious to touch, hold and even wear his silver medal newly earned at the 2012 games in London.
Retired Kente Public School teachers Sylvia MacPherson and Ann Crabb were delighted to have their photograph taken with their former student. “You must have done something right,” Price laughed.
Current Kente students Gavin and Croft Stratton, of Carrying Place, were all smiles posing for a photograph and were thrilled to show off their signed Canadian flag.
Peter and Zoe Tsarouhas, of Belleville, are just four and three-years-old but were wide-eyed and proud to pose for a photograph holding the heavy silver medal.
Price, 36, is senior coxswain — the team member who steers the boat and instructs and motivates the rowers — on the Canadian men’s eight rowing team. His team won gold dominating the field at the 2008 Summer Olympics in  Beijing, China.
At age seven, Brian Price battled leukemia, never thinking cancer would help shape him into an Olympic Champion 25 years later. He enjoys sharing his story and as a motivational speaker teaches, inspires and illustrates to people “that we are all capable of reaching the potential that lies deep within ourselves.”

Prince Edward County is also home to Olympic bronze medalist Reema Abdo who competed for Canada at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. The former backstroke swimmer won the medal in the 4×100 relay.

Retired Canadian boxer Shawn O’Sullivan, who for a few years lived and taught the sport in the County, won the light middleweight silver medal at the 1984 summer Olympics.
