Don Stanton Sr., and Larry Matheson were honoured for outstanding service and leadership with the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation. The two were presented recognition plaques from the board of directors.
Stanton, a founding director of the PECMH Foundation since 1985 oversaw the acquisition of six million dollars worth of medical equipment at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. He was also a director during the opening of the Dialysis Clinic in 2002 when Randy Claxton was president. He was vice-president of the Foundation when the Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging departments were renovated and reopened in 2010. Stanton served on the Foundation Board in many capacities including vice-president, president and past-president for 28 years and retired from the position of Past President in 2013.
Matheson joined the Foundation Board of Directors in 2008. Quickly ascending the ranks, he became vice-president, then president in 2011 when the newly installed donor recognition wall was unveiled. He was president during the Foundation’s $750,000 fundraising campaign to bring updated ultrasound and new digital mammography equipment to PECMH in 2012. Matheson will be remembered for his memorable comments re: cutbacks at PECMH at the 2013 QHC AGM. He resigned in 2014 after six years of service on the Foundation Board.
