John Bonn has been elected president of the Bay of Quinte Federal Conservative Association.
The Belleville-based lawyer contested the nomination to represent the party last fall, where Jodie Jenkins was chosen to move the party forward in the next election – expected to be in October. The other candidates – John Smylie, Susan Sweetman and Don Bonter are also on board to support Jenkins’ bid.

“It is exciting to see many familiar faces and so many new ones here tonight for the kickoff to this election year,” said Bonn, in a statement. “I’m particularly pleased to see all of the candidates for the nomination coming together to get started on the drive to elect a Conservative as the first member for the Bay of Quinte riding.”

Bonn replaces Rob Pearsall, the new riding’s first president. About 50 people attended the annual general meeting held in Trenton.

Jenkins noted he was “pleased to see faces from Frankford, Milford, Wellington, Batawa — from each corner of our riding.

“There is no doubt in my mind that we are already forging a strong team that is going to work hard, stay positive and keep this riding part of a strong, majority Conservative government.”
