Johnny Winter rocks the Regent

Blues legend Johnny Winter rocked a packed and appreciative audience at Picton’s Regent Theatre Friday night.
The 67-year-old blues rock guitar hero rose to fame in the Woodstock era and produced three Grammy winning albums. In 2004, with his Grammy nominated ‘I’m a Bluesman’ he ranked 74th in Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists. He is a featured performer at this weekend’s Blues Festival in Kitchener with his brother Edgar but performing separately.
The legendary Winter released his new studio album ‘Roots’ Sept. 26th, 2011 via Megaforce Records. The album returns Johnny to his roots by paying homage to the iconic blues heroes whose pioneering music influenced Winter’s own signature sound and style.
A host of special guests join Winter trading licks in honoring his idols, including Sonny Landreth, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, John Popper, Jimmy Vivino, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, John Medeski and his brother Edgar.

About the Author:
It was a great show, although, we were a bit taken aback at how frail Johnny Winter looked. And the promoter wasn’t kidding when he said the band played “loud.” I don’t have a problem with loud music, but it was exceptionally so. I had to cover my ears several times, and could still hear just fine. Ear plugs next time!
Amazing how such a small town can present such a great show. Just fabulous.
I saw him in 69 and he was incredible then – stealing the show at Woodstock, I saw him again in 71 at Massey hall playing with bro.Edgar. A true “Blues legend”.
It was a fabulous show and a major thrill to see a music legend like Johnny Winter in our town!
