Late tax bills due April 15

Final Tax Notices are to be mailed to Prince Edward County taxpayers Friday, March 20. Distribution had been delayed as the provincial Ministry of Finance had not released the 2015 education tax rates.

Due to the delay, the first installment due date has moved from March 15 to April 15, 2015. The second and third installment dates will not change.
The 2015 payment schedule is as follows:
– 1st Installment Due: April 15, 2015
– 2nd Installment Due: June 15, 2015
– 3rd Installment Due: September 15, 2015
The delay does not impact taxpayers enrolled in monthly pre-authorized payment plans and withdrawals will continue as scheduled. Taxpayers who are enrolled in the installment pre-authorized payment plan will see the first withdrawal on April 15, 2015.

The portion of the property tax bill relating to education is collected by the municipality on behalf of the province but is remitted directly to the school boards that service Prince Edward County. No portion of the this revenue is retained by the municipality. The education tax rate was 0.203% in 2014 and 0.195% in 2015.

“We appreciate how the uncertainty of the due dates has been frustrating for County of Prince Edward taxpayers,” said Susan Turnbull, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Finance. “We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”
