The installation of new light-emitting diode (LED) street lights begins Monday, Oct. 5.
The municipality’s contractor, RealTerm Energy, is changing 1,384 existing lights to the LED cobra head-style street light. The municipality expects all lights will be replaced by Nov. 26, 2020.
Residents can follow the progress of the installation in real time. Using an interactive online map, residents can find a streetlight and see the status of its replacement.
The County chose the 3000 Kelvin setting for the new lights following feedback from the public. Residents had the opportunity in June to visit test sites in Picton and Consecon to see the difference between 3000 and 4000 Kelvin. About 85 per cent of the respondents preferred the 3000 Kelvin setting.
Council approved the streetlight replacement project in February 2020 to reduce costs and save energy. The municipality each year expects to save approximately $217,000 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 metric tonnes.
