Library Week celebrates ‘lifeline for the community’

Library services available curbside and inside!

October is Library Month in Prince Edward County – featuring a new program for the youngest readers and several presentations.

The library has been a “lifeline for the community” during the pandemic, says PEC Library CEO Barbara Sweet. “Through the library, people have been able to download books, check out internet devices to remain connected, and access online programming.”

The library’s focus on early literacy, including the Impressive Reader Society and the soon-to-be-launched “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program ensures the County’s youngest readers and their families have access to books and encouragement to develop literacy skills.

With branches in Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington, Milford, Consecon and Ameliasburgh, the library has increasingly become a partner for delivering services in-person and curbside including handing out Wellington Rotary Beach passes, selling boat launch parking permits, conducting in-person resident surveys and more.

The Prince Edward County Public Library is celebrating Ontario Public Library Week Oct. 17-23 with the following events:

Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 1 pm – Discover the history of the library’s six branches and find out about library service in our presentation for Community Care for Seniors. Register by contacting Community Care for Seniors at (613) 476-7493
Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 2 pm – Your library – on the go! Learn about the surprising array of apps you can use to access the library!
Thursday, Oct. 21 at 2 pm – Join author Gail Anderson-Dargatz online in conversation with Vicki Delany.
Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 am – 1000 Books Before Kindergarten launch party at the Picton Branch Library.
