A cyclist riding the trails at the Macaulay Mountain Conservation area Tuesday afternoon fell off his bike and slid down a steep embankment where he lay hurt until a hiker heard his calls for help.
Prince Edward OPP Const. Kim Guthrie reports a hiker called 911, triggering police, fire and ambulance to respond to the scene.
“The injured cyclist was in a remote area making it difficult to locate him, but once found the difficult terrain further aggravated rescue efforts,” she said.
Several hours later the injured man was carried 40 metres up a steep slope using ropes, rescue baskets and a winch. He was then carried out of the wooded area to Clarke Road to a waiting ambulance.
The 53-year-old male from Belleville was transported to Picton hospital where he was treated for serious, but non life threatening injuries.
