Maple in the County festival cancelled amid COVID-19 concerns

Organizers from 13 County sugarshacks have decided to cancel Maple in the County 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Products will be available at producers’ farms, and local businesses.

At a meeting early Saturday, Maple in The County organizers from 13 local sugarshacks made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s festival scheduled for March 28-29 amid COVID-19 concerns.

The festival draws thousands of visitors to the County over the weekend. The decision aligns with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health recommending the cancellation of events with more than 250 people in attendance.

“While we are saddened that Maple in The County will not be taking place this year, the health and well-being of the community and the guests we welcome to our sugar shacks, farms and participating businesses is our top priority,” said Ron Hubbs, chair of the festival planning committee. “We could not, in good conscience move ahead as a festival with the uncertainty and rapidly evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.”

While the 19th annual festival will not take place in 2020, Hubbs says maple conditions in the area are ideal this year and County syrup producers are hard at work and continuing to produce maple syrup, maple butter and other maple products which are available locally.

Customers can still contact individual sugar shacks and businesses for products.

Well much like restaurants, despite the activity not going forward , there is no reason for all of us not supporting these great local producers and buying maple syrup whether in local stores or directly a their locations. This financial hit is difficult enough for folks like this, more incumbent on us to make sure we show our support for local businesses at times like this.
