More than 1,000 run in 10th annual County Marathon

Cold, wind and rain hampered some times but not spirits of more than 1,000 participants in the 10th annual County Marathon on Sunday.
“I have to say a big thank you to the residents of the county for lending us your home for the day. The people who lined the route to offer words of encouragement in the pouring rain were absolutely incredible,” said Denise Atkinson-Savage, who participated in the half marathon. “Hats off to all of you and thank you again for a positive experience I won’t soon forget.”
Winner Gilbert Kiptoo, of Rift Valley, (bib 191) won the full marathon finishing with a time of 2:38:21. Karine Laverdiere, of Whitby, was the first woman to finish – with a time of 3:17:13.3.
There were 218 marathon participants – 93 men and 62 women with an average time of 4:10:49.3
The Half Marathon had 521 participants – 181 men and 330 women with an average time of 2:09:25.1
The Sinus Pacers from Queen’s University was the first team to finish the relay marathon. There were 217 teams entered into the relay

Congratulations on the successful 10th year of the marathon. Well done volunteers, and thank you to all the residents who came out and cheered the runners on. Yes, there was some inconvenience with roads being closed, but it’s just for part of one day a year.
