Mother Nature no match for hardy Pumpkinfest attendees

It rained on Wellington’s 15th annual Pumpkinfest but Mother Nature was no match for hardy residents who paraded down the main street and celebrated a new world record pumpkin.
Rain and gusty wind ruined outdoor events downtown Wellington, but indoor food fests and displays thrived.
Alvin and Shelia Huffman saved the day for the weighing of giant vegetables as they welcomed growers to their farm. A new world record was set when Jim Bryson’s pumpkin weighed in at 1,818.5 pounds. See video/photos here.
Glen Huffman, 16, brought his 4H project to be weighed. His was the top weighing local pumpkin, finishing seventh. The next day, he and his family joined John and Sue Vincent in delivering the giant, along with John’s 1,246 pound squash to the prime minister’s office. See photos here.
