The financial contribution will contribute to helping the SSJI volunteers fulfil the mission of preserving the natural beauty of Prince Edward County’s south shore.
The public is invited to learn more about the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife area of the shore during new easy winter walks on level, groomed trails with stunning views, set up for Saturday, Jan. 18, Sunday, Jan. 19 and the weekend of Feb. 22-23 – all from 1-4 p.m. The ongoing Wild Thing walks are free of charge.
Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (PEP-NWA) is one of just 10 NWAs across Canada, open to the public, and it is open year-round.
There are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife as participants will move through a variety of habitats including a hardwood forest and along the cliffs while watching for signs of deer, grouse, weasel, and raccoon.
The scrub and grasslands are home to turkeys, coyotes, and rabbits. The shoreline offers possible sightings of mink, beaver, long-tailed ducks, and other waterfowl.
Winter birds like chickadees, woodpeckers, jays, and junco are plentiful and easy to spot.

The South Shore Joint Initiative is a volunteer-run Canadian non-profit charitable organization with a vision to permanently protect Prince Edward County’s South Shore, where together biodiversity and people thrive.
