The County of Prince Edward intends to continue honouring the road users agreement (RUA) it signed with wpd White Pines Wind in 2016.

“While the government of Ontario has signalled its intent to cancel the industrial wind turbine project in South Marysburgh, it is premature for the municipality to take any action before provincial legislation is passed,” said mayor Robert Quaiff. “We anxiously await the provincial legislation in order to better understand what effect it will have on this project.”

The County learned about the intention to cancel the industrial wind project through a press release issued on July 10. In a statement, Quaiff commended the provincial government for its intention to cancel the project, noting council declared in 2013 that the municipality was an unwilling host for industrial wind turbines.

The municipality entered into an RUA with wpd White Pines Wind in order to protect County roads and infrastructure during the construction. The RUA includes requirements of wpd White Pines Wind in the event that the project is cancelled.

wpd White Pines Wind has requested 13 oversize load move permits for the remainder of this week, with an additional 14 permits requested next week. The municipality will resume issuing the permits once it resolves localized road surface damage that occurred last week.

The first session of the 42nd parliament of Ontario opens Thursday, July 12 with the Lieutenant-Governor delivering the Speech from the Throne.

All I know is this is great news for PEC. And WPD had their turbine blades heading in the wrong direction yesterday. Lol.
