Girls Hockey Panthers were back in action after poor weather cancelled the Bayside Red Devils game last week. The 2014-2015 Bay of Quinte Champions and “AAA” OFSAA Silver medalist, St. Theresa Titans, ended up winning 2-0 in a nail-biter against the Panthers.
The Panthers and the Titans matched up perfectly as the Titans are a strong, offensive and fast team versus a very defensive, battle-and-grind Panther squad.
The game was scoreless until 6:35 mark in the second period. Goalie Taylor Snider played great and was peppered by the speedy Titans while stand-out Sam Ward smashed the cross bar with wrist shots that could have tilted the game into Panther favor.
Coach Laurie Spencer had high praise for the quality of the game.
“They (Titans) came out flying as we knew they would, but our girls were on their game and gave it their all. I can’t ask for anything else. I’m very pleased with the team effort.”
Panthers are off for the next two weeks for exams and they return to complete their regular league season with back-to-back home games. The Bayside Red Devils make-up game is set for Tuesday, Feb 9th at 3pm. Thursday, Feb 11th at 3pm brings their nemesis Trenton High School Tigers to Picton. The Tigers and Panthers always deliver an entertaining game as the Tigers and Panthers play the same crash and bash hockey.
