New facilities approved for Ameliasburgh Park

Fire last may destroyed the canteen and washrooms

Despite some concern about costs, councillors approved funds to move forward on the construction of new washroom facilities at Ameliasburgh Park.

The previous facilities were destroyed by fire in May 2017. Three bids were received for construction ranging from $159,194 to $198,604, excluding HST. The low tender was approved, from Standard Paving Ltd.

There was $85,000 put aside in the capital budget for the project in 2016 based on a plan to expand the existing canteen building to add washroom and change room facilities. The existing washroom building was to be closed to the public after the addition was completed, and then be used as a storage facility.

The scope of the project was altered from that plan as the building requires a new septic tank and connection to the existing septic bed, along with new potable water and electrical connections.

Insurance coverage of the fire damaged building was estimated at $78,000, however the County’s deductible for property insurance claims is $100,000 and losses under that are self-insured.

F$175,000, the County will use $78,000 from its insurance deductible claims line of the budget; $85,000 in capital sustainability reserve funds, plus 10 per cent for any contingencies that will be replaced if not used.
