New street sweeper on the way

A new street sweeper is on the way for the County following acceptance of a $461,597 tender bid from FST Canada Joe Johnson Equipment.

Last summer, the County’s 2017 unit was involved in a collision and deemed a loss. Insurance coverage in the amount of $196,789 meant an additional $272,711 was required for replacement.

The sweeper primarily services Picton Bloomfield, Wellington, Hillier, Rosehall, Consecon, Cherry Valley, Milford, Northport, Demorestville, Redersville, Rossmore and Ameliasburgh to remove road and curb suface sand, leaves and debris in the spring and fall. The method allows gutters to function properly during weather events and decreases sediment in catch basins.

Fall of 2022 and spring this year were maintained through a contracted sweeper, a method County staff states is not a viable long-term solution.

The new sweeper is expected to arrive in the first quarter 2024.
