New year opens balmy, followed by snow, patchy freezing rain

A ‘balmy’ New Year’s Day where many took to parks and trails for walking was followed by snow early Friday evening. It is expected to become mixed with patchy freezing rain or ice pellets, then transition back to snow before coming to an end early Saturday. Snow and ice accumulation is forecast between 5-10cm.

Saturday’s snow is expected to be minimal – about 2cm. Periods of snow are also forecast for Sunday.
