UPDATE DEC 2: The extended full closure is complete on Highway 49, Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge. The bridge has been re-opened, and traffic may resume crossing the Skyway Bridge as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday Dec. 2, 2020.
The extended full closure of Highway 49 at the Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge was re-scheduled due to expected poor weather conditions and will now take place from 6 am on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 until 6 am Thursday Dec. 3.
This closure is required to complete the final concrete placement to connect the two new decks together prior to final paving, before reopening the two lanes to traffic. Aecon Construction notes that due to unpredictable temperatures and the high-performance concrete being used, excessive vibrations need to be reduced until the concrete has reached requires strength for traffic to cross the bridge, which can take up to 48 hours at this time of year.
There is to be another full night closure Monday, Dec. 14 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15. This closure is intended for the removal of temporary concrete barriers, temporary energy attenuators, delineators and placing pavement markings.
