Milford Fair – old-fashioned fun all day Saturday

Milford-Fair-2013The Milford Fair, re-established after the Second World War, is a real expression of ‘rural roots’, notes Charlie Vincent, a member of its board. “There’s nothing fancy about it. We work hard at keeping it old-fashioned, while adding a few new things every year.” The fair theme this year is a salute to the history of the fair as a foundation for its future.

Fair day is Saturday, Sept. 14 with the grounds opening at 10 a.m.; the opening parade at 11 a.m. and the official opening at noon, followed by the citizenship awards. Most displays and activities open at 11:30 a.m. and end at 5p.m. with the closing of the fair.

Everybody is invited to participate in the parade. Meet at the former South Marysburgh school at 10:30 a.m. to form up.

The Milford Fairgrounds is about five miles south of Picton. See for map.

Fairground admission –   Adults $3; high school students $1; elementary school students and children under five free of charge.

As a “kick-off” to the fair, there’s a Square Dance on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the fairground shed starting at 7 p.m. Cash barbeque at 6 p.m. Country dancing, with live band (Wolfe Island Revelers) and Lorraine Sutton as caller.  Admission is $5 each or $10 for a family.
