OPP report firearm incident in Picton

UPDATE MAY 21: Prince Edward OPP continue to investigate a firearm incident in Picton.

On May 20, 2024, shortly after 2 a.m. officers were called to an address on Union Street in Picton.

“A firearm had been discharged and one individual was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” reports Bill Dickson, OPP Media Relations Coordinator.

He stated the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit conducted an extensive search of the area.

“Officers believe this was not a random incid ent and that there was no risk to the general public.”

The OPP continues to investigate this incident. Anyone with information, or who has potentially relevant doorbell or dashcam video, should call Prince Edward OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).

MAY 20: A ‘shelter in place’ was called, then later closed on social media in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Prince Edward OPP advised residents to lock all doors and windows due to an increased police presences Monday around 3:30 a.m. from Union to Harvey Streets and Church Street to Pineridge Drive.

The ‘shelter in place is no longer an immediate threat to public safety’ was lifted about two hours later.

Police report an ongoing investigation but “there is no longer a threat to public safety.”

No details were released to media. No further details were released on social media.

    It wasn’t done well cos I didn’t get get an alert on my phone or anything and I live just down the street. I went inside when I saw all the police cars milling about.
