Patriots win; packed house proud of Wellington Dukes’ effort

Toronto Lakeshore Patriots shut down the Wellington Dukes in a 2-1 Dudley Hewitt Cup championship game Saturday night.
The hometown team was cheered by a packed house in the Wellington Community Centre.
The Central Canada Junior A hockey championship tournament was hosted by the Dukes April 29 to May 3.
The games welcomed the Fort Frances Lakers, champions of the Superior International Junior Hockey League; title holders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots; winners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, and the host Wellington Dukes.
The Dukes won the cup in 2011 and 2003.
The tournament is named after George Dudley and W. A. Hewitt, two pioneers of amateur hockey in Ontario.
The Patriots advance to the RBC Cup Canadian Jr. A Championship May 10-18 at Vernon, B.C.
