The PECI Sr Boys Basketball team captured its third straight COSSA silver medal.
In the semi-final game, Friday, the team matched up against the #1 seed from Kawartha, the Holy Cross Hurricanes. In a re-match of last year’s COSSA Championship game, the Panthers used their tough half court defence to stifle the Crusader attack.
Led offensively by Kevin Wilson, the Panthers built a 9 point advantage at half time and never looked back, winning the game 62 – 49. Wilson scored a season high 24 points in the win.
The COSSA championship game featured an all Bay of Quinte match-up as the Panthers faced Centennial. The Panthers got off to a slow start and found themselves down 18 – 6 after the first quarter. They won the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but it was too little too late. The Panthers lost 64 – 37.
Despite not winning the gold, the Panthers can be proud of their accomplishments this season,” said coach Rob Garden. “This is the third silver medal in as many years. The team went 23 – 9 on the season and they competed in four tournaments and finished with just two losses in league play.”
He offers special congratulations to graduating seniors Bob Wilson, Jamie Ferguson, Kyle Gould, Alex Tucker, Brett Abram and Ben Wilson on an excellent high school basketball career.
