The PECI Girls hockey team came out on top of a tough battle, beating the Bayside Devils 3-2 Tuesday.
The game started off with the Devils pushing hard in the Panthers’ end, causing the defense to work hard. The Panthers had a few chances but were shut down by the Devils’ defense and goalie. Both teams were battling hard to get a goal and with a couple minutes left in the first Sydney Davies scored the first goal for the Panthers, with assist from Kendra Marion and Chloe Marshall.
During the second period Bayside was looking to tie up the game. They spent a lot of time in the Panthers’ end but goalie Madison Rowbotham shut down the shots Bayside threw her way. Playing too much in their end resulted in a goal for Bayside to tie the game 1-1.
Both teams went back and forth for some time, each team wanting to get in the lead. On one of the chances for PECI, Kim Pothier scored the second goal with assists from Tynika Williams and Sarah Juby. The Panthers continued playing strong as 48 seconds later Brooke Jackson scored the third goal with assists from Maddy Young and Davies. The Panthers got into some trouble near the end as Bayside scored another goal.
Bayside was looking to tie this game in the third period but the Panthers were playing a strong game which kept the Devils at bay. Later in the third, the Panthers got a penalty which gave Bayside an opportunity to score but the Panthers fought them off. The Panthers were able to keep the Devils down for the win.
The Panthers’ next game is set for Jan. 16th at home versus Saint Theresa at 3pm.
