Brooke Spencer
Brooke Spencer, of Picton, was one of 40 recipients across the province, to share in $120,000 in scholarships from MROO (Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario).
The scholarships support recipients in post-secondary studies and all recipients are family members of current MROO members. Scholarships are awarded in nine zones across the province and a 10th which covers the rest of the country, with recipients determined based on the number of applicants and specific eligibility criteria, including leadership skills, volunteer experience, and commitment to making a difference in their communities.
Spencer graduated from PECI in 2024 as a decorated athlete and scholar. She is currently studying marketing management at the University of Guelph. She and another student from Port Hope were each awarded $3,000 in MROO scholarships as recipients from Zone 5.
“The MROO scholarship program is an integral part of MROO’s mandate to give back to our members and their families,” said Jackie Forsey, director of Zone 5 which includes the counties of Prince Edward, Northumberland, Peterborough, Hastings, Lennox and Addington, Frontenac and Haliburton. “We hope these scholarships help to alleviate some of their financial stress and allow these students to focus on their studies. ”
Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario (MROO) is a not-for-profit corporation which speaks on behalf of Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) pensioners and provides services and benefits to 36,000 + members.
