PECI Panthers Girls Hockey players are on their way to the final four Bay of Quinte Tournament following a win over the Bayside Red Devils 4-3 in an exciting quarter finals do-or-die game.

The team slowly built a strong 2-0 lead through the first and second periods before the wheels fell off the Panther wagon. Kendra Marion assisted Sam Ward’s first period goal while Alex Staley scored the Panther’s second goal in the last minute of the second period. Kenda Marion and Kelli-Anne Maycock assisted on the insurance goal.

The Red Devils started their comeback charge 40 seconds after Celina Fox put the Panthers up 3-1 with her first of two goals. The Red Devils scored two goals 22 seconds apart to tie the game.

Celina Fox’s second goal and Taylor Snider’s solid goaltending slammed the door on the Devils with 4:17 left in the game. The Red Devils appeared to be spent as they didn’t manage a good attack on Taylor Snider after they pulled their goalie in the last minutes of the game. Sam Ward assisted on both of Celina’s goals while Abby Terpstra provided a helper.

Panthers, ranked third in the final four tournament, are in action at 9am Wednesday, Feb. 24th in Trenton against the winner of the ENSS Blue Dragons and Central Hastings Centurions in the opening final four tournament semi-final game.

The Panthers’ record against the Blue Dragons is split this season – one win in overtime and one lost in regular league play so an exciting game is expected.

UPDATE: If things go well for the Panthers, the gold and silver medal game is at 1:30pm while the bronze medal game starts at noon. No date announced as yet in case of poor weather.
