FEB 12: PECI Panthers girls hockey finished the regular season with a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Moira Secondary School Trojans.
Alex Staley’s unassisted goal provided relief to Panther fans in the second period to start the come back, beating Trojan goalie Ah-Mei Conroy from Wellington. Cailey Jones and Staley combined five minutes later to finally tie the game after a barrage of attacks on the Trojan goal that include a point blank one timer from Emma Woodward that was quickly smothered by Conroy.
This week the team will be preparing for the Bay of Quinte showdown scheduled to start next week.

PECI Panthers one and one

FEB. 8: PECI Girls Varsity Panthers hockey team was one and one this week.
Tuesday, Brighton’s East Northumberland Secondary School Blue Dragons were in Picton and the Panthers delivered a defensive 2-1 win.
Cailey Jones scored both goals unassisted during lapses in the Blue Dragons’ attacks. Outstanding goal tending delivered by Amanda Ostrander secured the Panther’s win against the unyielding Blue Dragons’ offence.
Thursday the Panthers changed gears and delivered a crashing and bashing offensive game but came up short in a 3-2 nail-biter to the power house from Centennial Secondary, Belleville.
Rookie Kim Pothier opened the scoring with her first goal as a Panther banging in a pass from Kassidie Wood and Melissa Corbin.
Alex Staley, in her second game back after serving a suspension in the Trenton High game in January, fired the cannon far side from the top of circles after picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone dug out by Sam Ward.
Panthers are back on the ice Monday, in Belleville, against Moira Secondary School at 3pm on Pad B at the Sports Center.
