Perfect weather brought 149 riders ranging in age from over 90 to under 14 to this year’s Kiwanis Colour Cribbage bicycle ride. There were three distances – the 25km, 50km and 100km – through the County. The participants were from local area and from as far away as Paris, Ontario, Perth, Ottawa, Hamilton and Waterloo.
“It was a perfect day for the ride – sunny and no wind,” said Kiwanian John Langschmidt. “The riders enjoyed sandwiches, drinks and a large assortment of desserts provided by Kiwanis, members and volunteers, and then headed back with their
loot bags, with smiles and promises that they’d be back for next year’s ride.”
Funds raised go toward Kiwanis projects. Picton Kiwanis is involved with buying bed kits for kids in third world countries (a program called Sleeping Children Around the World), they give financial support to local soccer teams, Kids of Steel triathlon, graduation awards, scholarships, local hospital foundation, and the Terrific Kids program in schools.
Light rain and much cooler temperatures expected for this weekend. Temperature for Sunday’s County Marathon Race is expected to be 12C, feeling like 9C, with showers. – John Langschmidt photos
