Person charged in lottery fraud

Following a fraud investigation this week, Prince Edward OPP remind the public that you never have to pay to collect winnings from a legitimate lottery.
On Jan. 27, officers began a fraud investigation after it was reported an elderly person was potentially being duped into believing they had won the lottery.
As a result, a 56-year-old of Sutton West, Ontario man has been charged with Fraud over $5000, Possession of a weapon – two counts, Drive motor vehicle – no licence and Fail to have insurance card.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Prince Edward County on March 12.
“Fraudsters frequently target vulnerable individuals,” reminds Nicole Cordingley, PEC OPP Community Safety Officer. “To help prevent victimization, please share this information, especially with those who may be at risk.”
