Petition seeks murderer’s transfer back to maximum security prison

A superior court judge called murderer Dean Brown “the poster child for the death penalty” before sentencing him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years. The Belleville man was sentenced to life in prison for the killing Prince Edward County residents Tracey Hannah and Whitney Hannah and the attempted murder of Shannon Hannah. Justice Richard Byers said Brown did not show a bit of remorse.
The petition states Brown has been moved from maximum security in Kingston to Warkworth, a medium security institution. The petition’s letter criticizes officials for the move without notifying family members of the victims. As of March 31, an internet petition has gained 2,000 signatures asking to send Dean Brown back to a maximum security prison.
“Dean Brown murdered my wife and daughter and attempted to murder my daughter Shannon and has now been given a free ride by Corrections Canada in medium security prison,” said Ted Hannah on the petition site. “This man has three life sentences and is not eligible for parole for 21 more years and they should never let him out.”
“I remember the horror the whole community felt when Dean Brown heartlessly killed Tracey and Whitney and attempted to kill Shannon,” posted Susan Blakeman. “He should be kept in maximum security to serve his time. Why does our justice system feel he deserves a break. The Hannah family deserves more respect.”
