Photos in the barn help raise the roof for a new hospital

Frustrated by the pandemic lockdowns and global political mayhem in the fall of 2020, ANDARA Gallery co-owners Tara Wilkinson and Andrew Csafordi asked themselves “What do we have that we can use for the greater good?” The answer was found in their 150 year-old barn.
They brought in and decorated a 15-foot Christmas tree from local Denmar Farms and set up a festive seating area. From there they posted messages on social media inviting people to come for a free and safe, socially distanced holiday photo in the barn in exchange for a donation to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “Back the Build” campaign for a new hospital.
The owners wear gloves and masks and use each person’s camera phone to take the photos so people can take their images home with them straight away.
Thinking they might be able to raise a few hundred dollars, they were thrilled when more than 300 people came for a photo session and donated $5,000 to Back the Build.
“Multi-generations came for a photo, some couples were even on their honeymoon after having their travel plans to warmer climes cancelled. Back in the day, barns were built and raised by the community,” says Tara, co-owner and fine art photographer at ANDARA Gallery. “It seems only fitting that the barn can now be used at this special time of the year to help our residents and visitors make memories safely and raise the roof on our new community hospital.”
Residents and visitors can book their appointment between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Dec. 23rd by calling (613) 393-1572. The suggested donation donation amount is $10 per adult, but everyone is welcome to give whatever amount they wish. The gallery is located at 54 Wilson Road.
