Picton Home Hardware’s donation Thursday of $5,000 put its cumulative giving total to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation at $36,226.99.
Home owners Adam, Chrissy and Mark Busscher are thanking the community for its support of initiatives that helped raise the money. The $5,000 comes from several electronic waste recycling events hosted throughout the year by Home Hardware as well as from a sold-out Customer Appreciation Event last month where ticket sales went directly to support the hospital foundation.
“The Foundation is so grateful to Home Hardware,” said Foundation Vice-President Barb McConnell, also thanking the community for its support of the Home Hardware events. “They were our first corporate sponsor for Back the Build, so they are very special in our hearts.”
“We have to keep it going and keep contributing,” said Adam Busscher noting some 220 supported the Customer Appreciation event.
Foundation Executive Director Shannon Coull said the Back to Build campaign is at $10.4 million in pledges toward the $16.5 million necessary to be raised in the community.
“We are fundraising over the next five years for our building campaign and we’re hoping to see a new hospital by 2025,” she said.
The Ontario provincial government pays 90 per cent of the estimated $76 million construction costs for the new hospital. The community must raise $12.7 million toward the cost of building the hospital plus more than $3 million for new equipment.
