A new Picton Main Street construction project is to begin Monday, June 5 with detours in place.
The project, which will span from Johnson Street to 250 metres east of Spencer Street, includes the following work:
– Installation of new underground infrastructure including watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers.
– Roadway reconstruction with new concrete curb and gutters, concrete sidewalks, and a new asphalt roadway surface.
Contractor RW Tomlinson Limited is tasked with completing the work in three phases to minimize the impact to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The first phase of construction is set for between Johnson and Bay streets from June 5 until late August.
Access to properties fronting Picton Main Street is to be maintained.
Through traffic on Picton Main Street will be detoured along Johnson and McSteven streets and McFarland Drive.
Quinte Transit’s pick up and drop off locations on Picton Main Street near Life Labs and near Crystal Palace will be temporarily suspended during the construction. Transit riders will get picked up and dropped off at a temporary stop on Johnson Street near the corner of Picton Main Street. Signs will be in place at the temporary stop.
Phase two is between Bay and Spencer streets expected to begin in late August with completion in November. Phase three work between Spencer Street and approximately 250 metres east, is set for 2024.
