Picton man facing attempted murder among slew of charges

A 52-year-old Picton man charged earlier this month with aggravated assault is now facing attempted murder, and several other charges.
On Feb. 8, at approximately 3 p.m. Prince Edward OPP officers responded to a report of a serious assault. They attended hospital where the victim was being treated and was later airlifed to a Kingston hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The man was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault. As a result of the ongoing investigation by members of the Prince Edward OPP Crime Unit, East Region Forensic Identification Services and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch the accused has been further charged under the Criminal Code with attempt to commit murder, breach of recognizance, using violence to prevent a person from receiving medical care, forcible confinement, fail to provide necessaries of life; administer noxious thing with intent – endanger life or cause bodily harm. He also faces four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon and three counts of overcome resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug, two counts of assault and firearm use while committing an offence.
The accused remains in custody until a scheduled appearance March 5 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. A publication ban has been issued by the court. His name will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
