Political quiz popular with voters

With just days to go before the May 2 federal election, a local political quiz continues to attract voter attention.  To date, over five hundred respondents have taken the Prince Edward-Hastings Voter Quiz.

The twenty-one question Quiz, available on the website of Liberal Candidate, Peter Tinsley, poses the question, “Should You Vote Liberal or Conservative?”  Voters are invited to choose the Liberal or Conservative position on a variety of issues, resulting in a final tally that places the quiz-taker in one of the party’s camps.

The Quiz addresses both national and local riding issues.

Since the Quiz was launched April 9, overall results have consistently reflected a wide margin of support for the Liberal position.

“From the very beginning, our Quiz has reflected the reality of our electorate,” says Liberal Candidate Peter Tinsley. “Overall results consistently show about 70% of support for the Liberals, and 30% for the Conservatives.  Like other measures of political inclination across the country, this Quiz shows that the Harper Government is favoured by less than  one-third of the population.  The Prince Edward-Hastings Voter Quiz confirms that the vast majority of voters reject the Harper political agenda.”

Tinsley acknowledges that, given the two-choice format of the Quiz, the high Liberal result represents a broad spectrum of voters, including NDP and Green supporters, as well as Conservatives who are disenchanted with Harper’s hard-ball style of politics.

“These results demonstrate that a unified vote for the Liberals in Prince Edward-Hastings can translate into a real result at the polls.  With more than two-thirds of voters sitting on the anti-Harper side of the political fence, rallying under the Liberal banner here will defeat the Harper incumbent, and help put an end to the Harper regime.”
