Poor condition of roads top Ameliasburgh complaints

The poor state of Ameliasburgh roads was high on the list of complaints from ratepayers attending a Town Hall meeting last night. About 80 in attendance – including Treat Hull (Ontario Greens) and Peter Tinsley (federal Liberals) – heard a report on economic growth from Dan Taylor, economic development officer. Mayor Peter Mertens noted the EDO represents 2% of the budget, whereas public works is a majority of spending. He told the crowd of the envy by outside politicians of the success of Prince Edward County. Mertens ruled out major road improvements in this year’s budget. The County is working on draft three of the budget. Budget meetings continue Friday and a public budget meeting is set for Tuesday. Brian Bondy photo
