Property and 2,300 cannabis plants seized in Sophiasburgh

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit has seized nearly 2,300 cannabis plants in Sophiasburgh ward in Prince Edward County.

CSCU officers, along with members of the Prince Edward County OPP Detachment, OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) executed a search warrant on Sept. 22 on Jericho Road.

Investigators seized the plants, two tractors, a number of generators, a variety of power tools, a rifle, approximately $475 in Canadian currency and a variety of equipment used for the production of cannabis.

Four people, from Scarborough and no fixed addresses, were arrested and charged with cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants contrary to the Cannabis Act and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.

The accused have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Dec. 2, 2020.
