Pumpkinfest a celebration of the season’s giants

A 1,675 pound pumpkin took top honours at the 18th annual Pumpkinfest in Wellington on the weekend – grown by Brant and Brandon Timm, of Pembroke.
The largest County pumpkin, and winner of the Bill Greer Award, was grown by Dan Langridge at 731 pounds.

The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth has verified Beni Meier, weighing in at Switzerland, as holding the world’s top three pumpkin weights at 2,323.70; 2,102.00 and 2,096.60.
Scot Houlb, of Oregon, holds the new world record for squash, at 1,578 and John MacKinnon, of Nova Scotia, holds the new world record for field pumpkin at 211 pounds.
Currently, the world’s largest tomato is 8.41 pounds, weighed in by dan MacCoy-Ely, of Minnesota.
The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth’s mission is to cultivate the hobby of growing giant pumpkins throughout the world. The County’s John Vincent, is the Ontario vice-president.
