Quinte International Air Show 2018 cancelled

With a priority on operations at 8 Wing Trenton home and abroad 8 Wing Trenton has cancelled plans to host the 2018 Quinte International Air Show.

Current operations include helping Canadians during disasters such as the British Columbia wildfires, delivering humanitarian aid internationally and supplying Canadian Armed Forces missions around the world.

The show hosted in 2016 came after a 13-year hiatus, attracting close to 80,000 visitors.

While it is impossible to predict the future operational tempo, the leadership at 8 Wing Trenton will be looking to work with community partners to explore the possibility of bringing the Quinte International Air Show back in the future.

“8 Wing Trenton is thankful for the tremendous support given to the Quinte International Air Show by sponsors and spectators. The support by our surrounding community is unparalled and that support allows us to execute the missions we are asked to do every day,” said Colonel Mark Goulden, Wing Commander, 8 Wing Trenton.

As well as ongoing Search and Rescue services, some examples of current operations include patrols to assist Fisheries and Oceans Canada; Operation Boxtop mission to bring supplies to Canadian Forces Station Alert; Operation Element helping federal partners manage the increase in asylum seekers at the Canadian border; Operation Lentus response to forest fires, floods and natural disasters in Canada; Operation Limpid, routine domestic surveillance mission; Operation Nanook, contribution to sovereignty patrols and security exercises in the high and eastern Arctic; Operation Nevus, maintenance on Ellesmere Island; Operation Palaci helping Parks Canada to prevent avalanches from blocking land routes in Rogers Pass.
