Riders of all ages beat the heat during a fun day of competition Sunday at the Picton Fairgrounds where members of the Prince Edward Horse and Pony Club strut their stuff.
Riders, both young and older participated in the club’s show judged by Leslie Uens, of Belleville. Formed in the early 70s, the club sponsors four competitions a year. Riders get an opportunity to continue to hone their skills and meet other riders. There are 80 members in the club.
“This is family-oriented event,” said Mary (Scott) Way, treasurer. “At the end of season we have an awards banquet.”
Riders are welcomed to compete as soon as they are able to sit in the saddle and they often continue riding well into their 60s. The riders not only compete in classes determined by the age of the rider they also participate in various games such as barrel racing, down and back and keyhole racing.
“I’ve been involved in the club right from the beginning,” said Blaine Way. “I stay in it just for the fun.”
There is no admission fee for the public to enjoy the fine equestrian talent. For further information contact Katie Way at 613-476-3331 or k.way18@hotmail.com
