Road closed while police investigate fatality

An investigation into the death of an Athol resident continues tonight.
Prince Edward OPP were dispatched to a collision involving a truck and an E-bike Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at approximately 4:50 p.m.
“The collision occurred on County Road 8 near County Road 25, when an eastbound truck collided with a westbound E-bike,” said Cst. Patrick Menard.
Ralph Chantrill, 78, of Athol, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Quaw Sheng Zhang, 50, from Belleville was arrested and charged with Criminal Code of Canada Section 249(4) – Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle cause death. Zhang is scheduled for a bail hearing Sept. 16.
Menard reports the OPP Technical Collision Investigation continues. It has closed County Road 8 between Bradley Cross Road and County Road 25 until further notice.
Alcohol, he said, was not a factor.
