Angry Birds Restaurant owner Michael Hymus, and business partner Debora Jeanes this week are giving 100 per cent of all Angry Bird sales to the Picton Rotary Club to disperse the funds to help support Ukrainian refugees. The club is also collecting e-transfer donations to support the people facing the invasion by Russia.
Rotary past president Bob Bird said the money will be used for two initiatives – ShelterBox Canada https://www.shelterboxcanada.org/ and Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC). https://hpicanada.ca/
Shelter Box provides ready-to-assemble structures for families with no place to sleep. This organization is currently on the ground in Eastern Europe providing shelter and emergency packages for those displaced in Ukraine and refugees in neighbouring countries. Emergency aid packages include things within the tent structure like blankets, solar lights, mats, warm clothes, cooking stoves, water purification systems and other items. Each box is valued at $1,200 CDN.
Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) provides access to medicines in vulnerable communities that have been affected by crisis, conflict or natural disaster. Last week they mobilized their first shipment of
medicines to Poland and will continue to send medical aid with healthcare professionals who are part of medical mission teams. They plan to send 400 humanitarian medical kits. While each kit is valued at $6,000 CDN the cost to Rotary is $600 CDN for each.
Hymus and the Rotary Club of Picton also encourage e-transfer donations on-line using
the address pictonrotary@gmail.com. In the subject line please note ‘Ukraine support’.
