Runners honoured the 30th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run while participating in the 16th annual Sandbanks Fall Getaway 10km and 5km Fun Runs Sunday at the provincial park.
Race Director Agnese Bortolussi says volunteers got up bright and early to set up registration, water stations, food and direction markers for the crowd of runners expected to arrive for the 5 & 10km run. There were 223 people registered for the Sandbanks Fun Run with others joining in for the Terry Fox Run.
“Our goal was to attract people to Prince Edward county after the summer tourist season was over and to help raise funds for the Friends of Sandbanks and The Terry Fox organization”, says Bortolussi. “The Fun Run was a success on both counts. Not only did we raise $2,200 for the Friends of Sandbanks, we also raised through donations and pledges approximately $27,500 for The Terry Fox Organization.”
“This run would not have been possible were it not for the generous donations of our sponsors who support the event and the 20 volunteers who assist with the logistics of staging an Ontario Roadrunners Association- sanctioned race. I would like to thank everyone who helped to make this such a success,” says Agnese.
“It was really nice to see many local participants in our run and I’m pleased that many local participants were also winners in their categories.”
