Santa delights in drizzly Picton Santa Claus parade

Story and photos by Sharon Harrison
While the weather outside was frightful with a cold, persistent rain, the Picton Santa Claus parade remained delightful for the many who came out to cheer the jolly old elf himself.

Santa was a busy chap Sunday afternoon, but using his super multi-tasking skills, he was able to be in two places at once (both Picton and Consecon).

The persistent drizzle, heavy at times, did lighten a little during the parade making it more bearable for both participants and spectators, many of whom came prepared with umbrellas.

The parade began its long route from McFarland and and MacSteven drives, travelling along Main Street to Lake and Talbot streets.

Legion members headed the parade, and following were a number of local area businesses, organizations and groups including the Belleville Rameses Shriners, the Picton Pirates, Picton Library 4-H, Prince Edward SXS/ATV Riders, the Salvation Army, the Prince Edward Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, and the Concert Band of Cobourg among them.

Along with some real life ponies, there were inflatables in a variety of cartoon characters, the Grinch, and Santa too.

And yes, the Cherry Valley Frasers made it once again, albeit with a much lighter load this time around.

While the entire event was sponsored by the Picton Recreation Committee volunteers, it was Santa Claus himself who undoubtedly stole the show.

There were also three food bank drop-off locations along the parade route where folks could donate non-perishable food items at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican church, The Royal Hotel, and at Property Management where everyone was welcome to warm-up at an after-party including photos with Santa Claus and cookie decorating, along with refreshments.
