• From 9 p.m. Thursday, May 9 to 6 a.m. Friday, May 10

WEEKEND CLOSURE: 6 a.m. Saturday May 11 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 13

The closures are intended for the installation of the modular expansion joint at the north abutment
of the bridge.

NEW: There is also an extended full weekend closure of the bridge from 6 a.m. Saturday, May 11 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 13.

In case of poor weather conditions, the closure may be re-scheduled to take place May 25-27.

This closure is intended for the placement of concrete in the closure strip to connect the new decks together prior to final paving.

Due to the high early strength concrete being used for this concrete placement, excessive vibrations need to be reduced until the concrete has reached the required strength for traffic to cross the bridge, which can take up to forty-eight hours.

During these time periods the highway will be closed, and no traffic will be permitted to pass over the bridge.

The bridge is an 850m long, high-level bridge carrying two lanes of Highway 49 traffic over the Bay of Quinte. The bridge was constructed circa 1967 and was in need of major repairs. The work included the complete replacement of the steel girders and deck, rehabilitation of the piers, and reconstruction of the abutments. The bridge deck will be widened slightly and will include 1.5 m shoulders on each side.

Work began in 2018 with preparations for each segment of the bridge and was to be replaced over five years.
