Services will continue to be sacrificed due to political decisions that not only affect our tax dollars but our services. Residents, tax payors and commuters should contact Tyler Allsopp and Rick Bresee, MPPS for PEC and L&A to demand an answer and a solution at:

Shortened! Last evening heading for the ferry at the Napanee turn off——big sign NO
SERVICE AND IT WAS JUST PAST 5:00 pm. Long drive up and around.

  3. Fred says:

The County fortunately has an alternate route, Wolfe Islanders do not.

  4. Angus Ross says:

@Jeff If only it was a million! The original contract for the Wolfe and Amherst Island ferries, signed by the provincial Liberal govt with support from the Feds, was $61 million but the final cost was $94 million., Wolfe Islander IV was supposed to go into service in 2022 but actually entered service Aug 17th 2024. It was shut down for repairs in late 2024 and resumed service in May 2025. How much it has cost in repairs and being laid up? Who knows!

  5. Barbrah says:

Sadly this needs to be updated, its is still running short hours on the 29th, 30th… unsure how long it will go on for.
It would be nice to know as some folks would love to know before arriving at the dock that they need to take the long way and avoid the extra 20 mins round trip there and then back to 49. It seems to be hard to get info on the ferry schedule, even on 511.

  6. Jeff McMunn says:

@Susan – Let’s be careful here about how this is presented. Nobody did anyone a favor here. It is not the County’s decision – it’s the provincial government.
This is a recurring problem. After some fact checking you’ll discover that tax payor dollars have been wasted, and the ferry services to the public and citizens is being slowly eroded.
Last year they the MTO brought in a brand new million dollar boat that either won’t work, or can’t handle the waterway – so the rest of the ferry crew (and fleet, which is also aging), is expected to pick up the slack. There’ so many layers to this issue and residents need to start seeing it for what it is.
If you lived anywhere south of Picton, in PEC and relied upon the Glenora Ferry for medical appts, emergencies, work etc, you would be frustrated, and not thankful.

  7. Susan says:

It’s great that The County can help out our Wolfe Island neighbours in a time of need and especially during the Christmas season. Not a huge sacrifice and the right thing to do.

  8. Jeff McMunn says:

The never ending saga: Fact is, the crew were reassigned to another ferry, in Kingston, the Wolf Islander. Our services were sacrificed for another ferry operation because the Wolfe Islander IV ONCE AGAIN couldn’t operate.
Doug Ford and his financiers need to get this straight and start explaining why the brand new ferry at Wolfe Island is a flop. And why other locations have to make these sacrifices. So, please check your facts before posting such a gentle message. In reality, peoples lives are being upended, at Kingston, and PEC.
This is no fault of the crew. It’s the politicians who need to be held accountable.
I feel terrible for crew, staff and residents at both locations.
