Mother nature was no match for race fans who eagerly packed the stands to give a proud salute to the Canadian Armed Forces at Brighton Speedway Saturday night. A rain shower slowed the program briefly but much to fans’ delight, added to the tackiness of the track for a wild and exhilarating night presented by CANEX.

Sandercock scores lucky seven
No. 46 Brandon Mowat took off from his pole position and looked like he was well on his way to his first win of the season in the 30-lap Vanderlaan Building Supplies Late Model feature. Mowat was dominate for over half of the affair as a patient and determined Charlie Sandercock worked the cushion. On the 19th time by, the No. 57 drove hard on the high side and slid into the top spot and on to victory lane securing his seventh win of the season. Mowat scored a hard earned second, No. 7 Adam Nayler third, No. 29 Phil Potts fourth and No. 1 Andy Mayhew fifth.

Greig grabs checkers
A soon as the green flag fell on the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified 25-lap main event, No. 48 Derek Greig took off from his second starting position and never looked back. Even as No. 1 Shawn Gregory and No. 12 Adam Whaley tried to intimidate him from behind, Greig didn’t buckle under pressure. Lapped traffic slowed the pace on the final time by. When it looked like Gregory might steal the show, with only seconds to go Greig bit down on the inside lane and raged on to the checkered flag for the first time in six years. Gregory took home second, Whaley third, No. 07 Curtis King fourth and No. 99 Linc Brown fifth.

Turner takes first season win
No. 85 Austin Reid and No. 92 Adam Turner led the field of 21 Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks to green in the 20-lap main event. At the drop of the green flag Turner jumped on the lead and took off as Reid battled hard at his back bumper. The pair treated fans to a thrilling showdown for 15 laps. With five laps to go a caution brought the action to a halt but it didn’t stop Turner who took off again and ran hard on the inside line. On the last lap, fans screamed with excitement as a caution forced Turner and Reid into a drag race to the finish line. Turner stomped on the gas and took off as Reid and No. 17 Jeff Humphry pushed in the rear view but it wasn’t enough as the 92 sailed to victory lane for the first time this season. Reid took second, Humphry third, No. 97 Dave Barrett fourth and No. 51 Mike Freeman fifth.

Peterson parks it
It only took No. 17E Emily Peterson six laps to snap up the lead in the Bill’s John’s Comp 4 15-lap feature. Peterson was bent and bound on scoring her first career win as she held off the likes of No. 44 Tommy Bailey and No. 43 Devon Kippen. On the final lap it looked like Bailey might go from wreckers to checkers as he went door to door with Peterson. In a photo finish, Peterson parked it leaving Bailey to settle for second. No. 4 Chris Tufford took third, No. 11 Adam Flieler placed fourth and No. 52 Doug Galt fifth. Peterson gains the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the week accolades for her photo finish and first feature flag.
No. 12 Caleb Severn rode to victory lane in the mini-stock feature.

Triemstra’s ride to VL in van thriller
On their second appearance of the season, the Gord’s Water Vantastics did not disappoint. A full count of 13 minivans dialed in for the 12-lap affair. With his brother Logan riding shot gun, No. 21 Hunter Triemstra took it 3-wide for the lead on lap 3. Triemstra flew to victory lane leaving a path of mayhem in his wake. No. 179 Derek Anderson took second place, No. 55 Tristan Leclair third, No. 3 Kevin Carruthers fourth and No. 12 Rod Conley fifth.
