St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Wellington has scored another hole-in-one for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build campaign.

For the 11th consecutive year, the tournament united 72 golfers, who once again demonstrated their community spirit, generosity and commitment to building a new hospital in our community.

The sold-out tournament in August raised $3,500 for a second year St. Andrew’s has designated a portion of the proceeds.

This brings St. Andrew’s cumulative giving to $7,000 and earns the church a spot on the PECMHF donor wall at the Sponsor level for donations over $5,000.

“We are privileged to be in a position to be able to make this gift to our new hospital which when complete will be a foundational benefit and lasting legacy to future generations and improve the health and lives of everyone in our community,” said Reverend Ada Clifton.

“We are tremendously grateful to our very generous donors, sponsors, golf committee members, board members and the numerous volunteers who helped to make the day inspiring and memorable,” said Art Hewer, chair of the golf tournament and treasurer of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. “The tournament is a fun time and always creates a generous atmosphere.” The putting contest and the “Beat the Pro” contest, he notes, were popular.

After the golfing, everyone congregated at the church for one of the ACW’s famous roast beef dinners. Prizes and a silent auction added to the fun and golfers left ready to try again next year.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital redevelopment project is moving along and the PECM Hospital Foundation team continues to seek support from the public in the approach to Stage 3.

“It is by coming together as a community and raising funds through activities like this tournament, that we will reach our goal of building a new hospital in Prince Edward County,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation.

The PECMH Foundation’s Back the Build campaign aims to raise $16.5M for the new hospital over the next five years.

To date, the Foundation has raised more than $11 million of its $16.5 million fundraising goal, which Coull calls an outstanding testament to the community and municipal support received so far.
